Colin Matthews, OBE is an English composer of classical music.
Matthews read classics at the University of Nottingham, and then studied composition there. In the 1970s he taught at the University of Sussex, where he became known for his work about fellow composer Gustav Mahler.
In 2000, Matthews wrote this addition to Gustav Holst’s The Planets in a similar style to the original work. Matthews even altered the ending of Holst’s Neptune in order to make the start of his piece fit better.
Gustav Theodore Holst was an English composer, arranger and teacher.
The Planets, Op. 32, is his seven-movement orchestral suite written between 1914 and 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System.
