Judith Weir CBE is a British composer and the first female Master of the Queen’s Music – a post in the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom. The holder of the post originally served the monarch of England, directing the court orchestra and composing or commissioning music as required.
Weir was born in Cambridge, England, to Scottish parents. Her music often draws on sources from medieval history, as well as the traditional stories and music of her parents’ homeland, Scotland.
