Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer and the first Russian composer whose music made a lasting impression internationally.
He was born in Votkinsk, a small town in the Russian Empire, into a family with a long line of military service. Both his parents were musical as living in a remote area of Russia also meant a need for entertainment.
The Sleeping Beauty was a ballet first seen by its dancers as needlessly complicated but this allowed him to create a more imaginative ballet than had been seen before.
Enjoy and have a lovely weekend.
